Nick Reiner, 32, has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder in the deaths of his parents, Hollywood director Rob Reiner and producer Michele Singer Reiner, who were found dead in their Brentwood, California home on December 14. Authorities said the couple had been dead for several hours when they were discovered by their daughter, Romy.
Surveillance video shows Nick calmly buying a drink at a gas station shortly before surrendering to police about 15 miles from the family home. Additional footage captured his arrest later that night, when he was ordered to the ground and handcuffed.
TMZ reported Nick was seen arguing with his father the night before at Conan O’Brien’s Christmas party, where witnesses said he appeared agitated. Police have not confirmed what happened afterward.
Prosecutors said the charges could carry life in prison without parole or the death penalty, though no final decision on seeking capital punishment has been made.
