A Florida family is facing tragedy after a cosmetic procedure went wrong. Daidys Peña, 50, suffered a pulmonary embolism during a Brazilian Butt Lift at A&E Med Spa in May 2023, leaving her with severe brain damage. She can no longer walk, talk, or eat independently and now requires constant care from her husband, Jorge Fernandez.
Jorge said doctors initially warned she might not survive. Though she did, she now depends on a feeding tube and 24-hour care. He has filed a lawsuit against A&E Med Spa and surgeon Dr. Fermin Esteban Morales, alleging they were misled about the doctor’s qualifications.
Morales is licensed as a general surgeon but is not board-certified in plastic surgery, which the family’s attorney says patients are often led to believe. Under Florida law, any licensed physician may perform cosmetic procedures. Morales has previously faced scrutiny after another patient died during a similar surgery.
A&E Med Spa has denied the allegations and stated Morales no longer works there. Friends have launched a GoFundMe to help cover Daidys’ medical and rehabilitation costs, while Jorge says his goal is to prevent other families from experiencing the same ordeal.
