Beloved TV sports reporter and her husband found dead in their home

Posted on December 19, 2025 By admin

Alabama is mourning the deaths of former WBRC sports reporter Christina Chambers, 38, and her husband, Johnny Rimes Jr., 41, who were found dead in their Hoover home on December 16. Authorities believe the incident was a murder-suicide, though the investigation is ongoing. Their 3-year-old child was found unharmed.

Police say both died from gunshot wounds and that there is no threat to the public. The couple was discovered after family members grew concerned when they failed to attend a Christmas program at their church and school.

Chambers was a respected sports journalist and former UAB track athlete who worked at multiple stations before joining WBRC in 2015. She later became a broadcast journalism teacher at Thompson High School, earning Advisor of the Year honors in 2024, and remained active as a freelancer and corporate communications professional.

Colleagues and friends remembered her as a passionate journalist, devoted mother, and beloved mentor. Tributes poured in from across Alabama, honoring a woman whose impact reached far beyond the newsroom.
