A young girl’s life changed after being rejected by her birth mother and 20 adoptive families. In 2017, Italian man Luca Trapanese adopted baby Alba, who has Down syndrome—an uncommon decision in Italy, especially since Luca is single and openly gay.
Luca, now 41, shared his journey in a book, saying his story challenges stereotypes about family and fatherhood. Social services told him he would only be considered for a child with serious illness or disabilities, which he fully accepted.
Alba was just 13 days old when Luca adopted her. Rejected by others because of her condition, she instead found a loving home. Luca, who has long worked with people with special needs and began volunteering after losing a close friend to cancer, said becoming her father brought him immense joy and fulfillment.
Today, Alba is a happy, energetic child who loves to play and dance. Luca often shares their life together on Instagram, where their bond continues to inspire thousands.
