As Bad Bunny prepares to headline the Super Bowl LX Halftime Show on Feb. 8, conservative group Turning Point USA (TPUSA) has announced a competing livestreamed “All-American Halftime Show,” headlined by Kid Rock, as a so-called wholesome alternative.
The NFL’s decision to feature Bad Bunny — a Puerto Rico–born global star who often performs in Spanish — sparked backlash from right-wing commentators and President Donald Trump, who called the choice “ridiculous” and said he will not attend the game. Bad Bunny has openly criticized Trump, including in his music, and recently made history as the first Spanish-language artist to win Grammy Album of the Year.
Bad Bunny is expected to perform largely in Spanish, a point TPUSA has criticized. In response, TPUSA revealed its lineup this week: Kid Rock, Brantley Gilbert, Lee Brice, and Gabby Barrett. Kid Rock, a vocal Trump ally, framed the event as a “David vs. Goliath” challenge to the NFL’s official show.
While Vice President J.D. Vance praised the lineup, online reaction has been largely mocking, with critics calling the event “un-American,” outdated, and unlikely to appeal to younger viewers. Others pointed out the irony of promoting a “Christian” alternative led by Kid Rock, whose music is known for explicit lyrics.
The rival halftime show will livestream at the same time as the official Super Bowl performance.
