In his memoir Greenlights, Matthew McConaughey reveals he was sexually assaulted at 18 while unconscious in a van and blackmailed into losing his virginity at 15. He also wrote that he once feared he would go to hell for having sex before marriage.
Despite these traumatic experiences, McConaughey says he has never seen himself as a victim, adding that he believes “the world is conspiring to make me happy.”
The Oscar-winning actor, known for Dallas Buyers Club, Interstellar, and True Detective, has built a successful Hollywood career and remains active in supporting causes, including efforts to prevent sexual assault at the University of Texas.
In the memoir, he also discusses his parents’ turbulent marriage, describing violent arguments followed by reconciliation. By sharing his story, McConaughey hopes to inspire others to speak out about their own experiences.
