The First Male Homecoming Queen in Missouri Speaks Out After Facing Backlash

In 2021, Zachary Willmore made history when he became the first male student in Missouri to be crowned homecoming queen at Rock Bridge High School.

Wearing a gold gown on the football field, Zachary said the moment felt like a dream.

But his victory quickly sparked controversy online. Some critics claimed he had taken the title away from girls, while Zachary explained that the school only had one overall winner and students could choose either title.

Years later, Zachary says some media coverage continues to fuel anger rather than tell the full story.

Now 22, he has built a massive following on TikTok, where he shares videos about his life, personal experiences, and topics like hate, identity, and social issues.

Looking back, he says the criticism made him stronger. After his win, he faced online attacks and even threats, but he remains proud of the moment that made history.

“I’m definitely a much tougher person because of that experience,” he said.
