I sold my parents’ lake house and my car to fund my husband Jake’s dream farm. I trusted him completely and was on my way to transfer the last of my savings when I accidentally took his phone instead of mine.
At the bus stop, it rang. A woman named Alex called him “baby” and said she’d been waiting all night. That’s when I realized Jake was living a double life.
Instead of going to the bank, I followed him and discovered he was seeing Alex — and promising to marry her after divorcing me. Worse, he was asking her for money too, claiming he needed it for lawyers and a settlement.
When I confronted Alex, we realized we’d both been manipulated. I had sold my family home for his “dream,” and she had sold her company shares for their “future.” So we decided to work together.
We let Jake believe the money was coming from both of us and arranged to meet him at a restaurant. While he reassured Alex that he was leaving me and blamed me for everything, I stepped in and exposed him.
He thought I had already transferred the money. I hadn’t.
Neither of us gave him a cent.
Alex and I walked away together, leaving Jake with nothing but his lies — and his unpaid dinner bill.
