Charlotte Brosnan secretly married her longtime partner, artist Alex Smith, in 2013, with her father Pierce Brosnan walking her down the aisle. Just two weeks later, she tragically died of ovarian cancer at age 42 — the same disease that claimed her mother, Cassandra Harris, and grandmother.
Charlotte was the daughter of Pierce’s first wife, actress Cassandra Harris, who died of ovarian cancer in 1991 at 43. After Charlotte’s biological father died, Pierce adopted her and her brother Christopher. The family later welcomed Sean, Pierce and Cassandra’s son together.
Deeply affected by her mother’s death, Charlotte struggled with depression and addiction before seeking rehab in 2003. She later pursued acting, following in her parents’ footsteps.
After being diagnosed with ovarian cancer, Charlotte faced treatment with strength and grace. She passed away on June 28, 2013, surrounded by her husband, children Isabella and Lucas, and her family.
Pierce paid tribute to his “darling daughter,” praising her courage and dignity. He had flown back from filming to be by her side, just days after giving her away at her wedding. Today, her children are grown, carrying on her memory.
