Caleb Flynn, 39 — a self-described devout Christian and former American Idol contestant — has been charged with murdering his wife, Ashley Flynn, 37, inside their Ohio home while their two young daughters slept nearby.
Authorities say Flynn called 911 around 2:30 a.m., claiming an intruder had broken in and shot his wife. Officers initially observed signs of forced entry and launched a large search using drones and K-9 units. However, investigators later determined the scene had been staged to resemble a home invasion.
Ashley, a teacher and volleyball coach, was found shot in the head in the bedroom. Police now allege Flynn used a 9mm handgun and attempted to mislead authorities. Only Flynn, his wife, and their two daughters were inside the home at the time.
Flynn was indicted on murder and evidence-tampering charges and pleaded not guilty. His bond was set at $2 million. Prosecutors say the alleged staging misled investigators in the early hours of the case.
