A missing Kansas elementary school teacher was found dead in the snow just 300 yards from where surveillance last showed her during a powerful winter storm.
Rebecca Rauber, 28, was discovered Sunday in a wooded area near the bar she left late Friday night. She had walked out without her phone, purse, or jacket as temperatures hovered around 3 degrees, with wind chills near minus 13. Authorities believe she died of hypothermia. An autopsy is pending.
Police located her with help from a K-9 search team and said the outcome was not what they had hoped for. Rauber, a second-grade teacher at Riverside Elementary, was remembered as deeply loved by her school community.
Her death is among at least 13 linked to Winter Storm Fern, which impacted 34 states and left millions without power.
