The Royal Family is facing a difficult period after Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, formerly known as Prince Andrew, was arrested last week on suspicion of misconduct in public office. King Charles said the family welcomes an investigation, but the royal schedule continued as planned.
On Sunday, Prince William and Kate Middleton attended the 2026 BAFTAs in London. When asked if he had watched Hamnet, a film about the death of Shakespeare’s son, William replied, “I need to be in quite a calm state and I am not at the moment,” a comment many saw as reflecting the current strain.
Body language expert Judi James told Page Six that the couple appeared tense and unusually distant. Instead of their typical supportive gestures, William reportedly showed subtle signs of self-soothing and anxiety.
Despite the pressure, William remained attentive to Kate. According to Express, he quietly told her to “watch your step” as they walked the red carpet. Kate did not visibly respond.
Though the family has not publicly commented further, the recent events have clearly cast a shadow over their public appearance.
