Len Garry, a former bandmate of Paul McCartney and John Lennon in The Quarrymen, has died at 84, his family confirmed.
Garry played with his school friends in the 1950s group, which later evolved into The Beatles in 1960. Diagnosed with dementia in 2024, he was recently hospitalized with a chest infection but returned home, where he died surrounded by family.
He attended the Liverpool Institute High School for Boys, met McCartney there, and performed with The Quarrymen at school events and their first show at Cavern Club. In 1997, he reunited with surviving Quarrymen members for the band’s 40th anniversary, touring the UK and releasing four albums.
It is unclear whether Garry will be featured in the upcoming Beatles biopic, The Beatles: A Four-Film Cinematic Event, set for release in 2028.
