Experts say showering too often can harm your health by stripping the skin’s natural oils and good bacteria that protect against dryness and infections. Frequent hot showers and harsh soaps can cause irritation, redness, and cracked skin.
Hot showers may also affect the body’s temperature regulation and blood pressure, especially in older adults. Washing hair daily can remove natural scalp oils, leading to dry, brittle hair and possible hair loss.
Researchers also suggest that being too clean may weaken the immune system, since the body needs some exposure to microbes to build defenses.
Experts recommend showering about 2–3 times a week, using warm water and keeping showers short, unless lifestyle or heavy sweating requires more frequent washing.
