A U.S. Coast Guard officer, Yohan Sanchez (33), his wife Rebeca Santos, and their two sons, Michael Melendez (15) and Samuel Sanchez (2), were found dead inside their home in Ocala, Florida, during a welfare check Friday night. Authorities believe the family may have died from carbon monoxide poisoning, though the official cause will be confirmed by the Medical Examiner.
Sanchez’s mother said she had spoken with him earlier that day while he was baking a cake, unaware it would be their final conversation.
Concern arose after the family missed a church event, prompting their pastor to check on them and later call 911 when there was still no response. Police say there is no sign of foul play, and the investigation is ongoing.
Family members described Sanchez as a devoted Christian and dedicated Coast Guard officer. A GoFundMe has been created to help cover funeral costs and support the grieving family.
