Judge Frank Caprio, known as “The Nicest Judge in the World,” was celebrated for his compassion, warmth, and humor, famously captured on the TV show Caught in Providence. Rather than harsh punishments, he often offered grace, encouragement, and second chances, earning him millions of fans online.
In August 2025, Caprio passed away at 88 after a brave battle with pancreatic cancer. His family remembered him as “a respected judge, and a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend.” Even during his illness, he displayed optimism, telling followers on his birthday: “I know this is a long road, and I’m fully prepared to fight as hard as I can.”
Caprio underwent six months of chemotherapy and five rounds of radiation, sharing updates and gratitude with his supporters. His final Instagram post showed him smiling from a hospital bed, thanking everyone for their prayers and love.
After nearly 40 years on the bench, he retired in October 2023, reflecting: “While I do miss being on the bench, everywhere I go, I’m reminded that my legacy still lives on. Just because one door is closing, don’t be afraid to open the next one and see what life has in store for you.”
