Sally Field responds to critics who called her “ugly”

Posted on March 15, 2026 By admin

Being a woman in Hollywood isn’t easy, but Sally Field has always chosen to defy the industry’s expectations. Known for iconic films like Forrest Gump, Mrs. Doubtfire, and Steel Magnolias, Field has also become admired for standing against ageism and criticism about her appearance.

Field’s early life was difficult. In her 2018 memoir, she revealed she suffered sexual abuse from her stepfather, Jock Mahoney. Despite these challenges, she began her acting career in the 1960s sitcom Gidget, which launched her to fame and later led to powerful roles in films like Sybil and Norma Rae, the latter earning her an Academy Award.

Over the years, Field became known for portraying strong maternal characters in films such as Soapdish and Not Without My Daughter.

Now in her late seventies, Field has openly embraced aging naturally. In interviews, she has said she accepts growing older and refuses to rely on plastic surgery to recreate her younger appearance. While she admits it can be difficult to see the changes in her face and body, she believes it’s important to respect the person she is today.

Her choice has unfortunately brought criticism from online trolls who mock her appearance. Still, Field ignores the negativity and remains committed to aging with honesty and dignity.

She has also quietly dealt with osteoporosis, a condition she was diagnosed with before turning 60. Despite maintaining a healthy lifestyle, the disease—common among women after menopause—caused her bone density to decline.

Through personal struggles, health challenges, and public criticism, Sally Field continues to inspire many by embracing aging and staying true to herself.
