When Cindy mentioned a “friend” named William, Ruby thought nothing of it—until she realized William was her late father’s name.
Ruby lived with her husband Dean and their daughter Cindy, while her mother struggled deeply after losing her husband, becoming quiet and withdrawn. She often took Cindy out, but recently Cindy returned upset.
When asked why, Cindy said, “It’s Grandma’s friend… William. He’s always there.”
Shaken, Ruby visited her mother, who tearfully explained she still talked about her late husband to cope with loneliness, not realizing it was confusing Cindy.
Understanding her mother’s grief, Ruby gently explained that Cindy was too young to understand. Together, they talked it through. Her mother later explained everything to Cindy and began healing—opening up, seeking help, and slowly finding herself again.
As a family, they learned to cope with loss, turning grief into love and moving forward together.
