Exercise is healthy, but overdoing it can be dangerous—even fatal.
In June 2025, 43-year-old NYC banking executive Slava Leykind died after participating in an extreme hiking challenge called “Everesting” at Snow King Mountain in Wyoming. The event involves repeatedly climbing and descending a mountain to match the height of Mount Everest.
Leykind completed six ascents before collapsing from cardiac arrest. He was taken to a hospital in Idaho, where he died on July 2.
He lived in Connecticut with his wife and three children and had worked for over 20 years at an investment bank in New York. Despite his career success, his family was described as his greatest pride.
After his collapse, the event continued, and organizers later acknowledged his death, calling it a tragic loss for the community.
