New details have emerged about the death of Anne Burrell, who died in June 2025 at age 55.
According to police reports obtained by PEOPLE, investigators found a suicide note and journal entries in the bedroom of her Brooklyn home after her husband, Stuart Claxton, discovered her unresponsive on the bathroom floor surrounded by pills. Emergency responders pronounced her dead at the scene on June 17, 2025.
The New York City medical examiner later ruled her death a suicide caused by acute intoxication involving antihistamines, alcohol, and amphetamine.
Burrell was best known as the longtime host of Worst Cooks in America and for shows like Secrets of a Restaurant Chef. Known for her spiky platinum hair and energetic personality, she became one of Food Network’s most recognizable chefs and also authored bestselling cookbooks including Cook Like a Rock Star.
Born in New York in 1969, Burrell trained at the Culinary Institute of America and built a successful career in restaurants, television, and teaching home cooks. She is survived by her husband, family members, and step-son Javier.
