Trump signs executive order that will change future elections

Trump Signs Controversial Executive Order on Voting

President Donald Trump has signed a sweeping executive order requiring proof of U.S. citizenship to vote in federal elections, sparking intense debate. The order, titled Preserving and Protecting the Integrity of American Elections, mandates documents like a passport, military ID, or REAL ID-compliant license for voter registration.

Critics warn it could disenfranchise millions. The order also demands mail-in ballots arrive by election day—ending the grace period allowed in 18 states and Puerto Rico—and allows federal agencies to access state voter rolls to remove noncitizens.

Legal experts say the order could face major court challenges, calling it an overreach of executive power. Trump claims it aims to prevent election fraud, but opponents argue it’s a voter suppression tactic likely to reshape how elections are run across the country.
