Leo lay curled up, weak and trembling, his sobs fading but still visible in his breathing. Clara approached slowly and placed a hand on his back.
“It’s okay,” she whispered. “I’m here.”
Leo turned to her, eyes pleading. “It hurts.”
Clara gently lifted his pillow—and felt it was unusually heavy. When she opened it, she found hidden electronic devices and wires buried inside.
Her heart sank. Someone had planted a device inside the pillow, likely emitting signals that caused Leo’s pain and disturbed his sleep. Tiny marks on his skin confirmed he had been affected for a while.
Leo asked what it was, but Clara only assured him they would figure it out. As she examined it further, suspicion grew that someone had done this deliberately to harm him.
Angry but controlled, Clara decided to remove him from the room immediately. “You’ll sleep with me tonight,” she said softly.
Leo clung to her in relief. She carried him to her room, where he finally fell into a peaceful sleep for the first time in weeks.
As he rested, Clara resolved to confront James in the morning and reveal everything she had found. She stayed beside Leo through the night, determined to protect him no matter what it took.
