Nancy Guthrie, the 84-year-old mother of Today show host Savannah Guthrie, has been missing since February 1 after allegedly being abducted from her Tucson, Arizona home by a masked intruder. Authorities believe she was taken against her will, with ransom notes sent to media outlets adding to the suspicion of kidnapping.
The FBI and Pima County Sheriff’s Department continue an extensive investigation, though no suspect has been identified. Officials say they are still processing physical evidence, including possible DNA, and remain hopeful progress is being made.
Savannah and her family have been vocal throughout the search, thanking the Tucson community for support and repeatedly urging anyone with information to come forward. On Mother’s Day, Savannah shared an emotional message saying they will “never stop looking” and asking for anonymous tips through the FBI hotline.
Despite the ongoing search, Savannah has returned to work at Today, where she admitted it has been “really hard” to come back while still coping with her mother’s disappearance.
Authorities have also issued a public alert for a separate kidnapping suspect, Coral Michelle Smith, who was reported in the area about seven miles from Guthrie’s home. Smith has a long criminal history, but officials say there is currently no confirmed link between her and Nancy Guthrie’s case.
As of now, Nancy Guthrie’s whereabouts remain unknown, and the investigation is ongoing.
