A 9-year-old girl from San Diego died just hours after undergoing a dental procedure at Dreamtime Dentistry in Vista.
Silvanna Moreno had a root canal, crown placement, and several tooth extractions under anesthesia on March 18 after months of tooth pain. She was discharged in stable condition, but later became unresponsive at home and was rushed to the hospital, where she died.
The medical examiner ruled her death accidental, citing methemoglobinemia following recent nitrous oxide administration, a rare condition linked to anesthetic use.
An internal review is ongoing.
