Austin Metcalf’s mother, Meghan Metcalf, delivered a heartbreaking statement to the teen convicted of killing her son moments before he was sentenced to 35 years in prison.
Karmelo Anthony, 19, was sentenced on June 10 after being found guilty of murdering 17-year-old Austin Metcalf during a 2025 Texas high school track meet in Frisco.
Before sentencing, Austin’s family addressed Anthony directly in court about the pain caused by the loss.
Meghan described her daily grief, saying life without her son feels like constant emptiness and speaking to him only at his grave.
She remembered Austin as a loving, peaceful teenager who brought people together, stressing, “My son was murdered. He didn’t just die.”
Turning to Anthony, she added, “You should feel lucky you got 35 years because I’ve been given a life sentence.”
Austin’s father, Jeff Metcalf, also spoke in court, saying the loss destroyed him and changed his life forever.
He said he forgave Anthony after the tragedy but could never forgive the act itself, and reminded him that actions come with consequences.
The emotional statements came as Anthony was sentenced to 35 years in prison.
