Veteran British actor Michael Byrne, known for memorable roles in Indiana Jones, Braveheart, and Harry Potter, has died at the age of 82. His death was confirmed in an obituary published by The Guardian; no cause was given.
Born in 1943 in London, Byrne grew up in a single-parent household and discovered acting early in life. He later trained at the Central School of Speech and Drama, launching a career that spanned more than six decades.
He became known as a powerful character actor, often playing villains, including Colonel Ernst Vogel in Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade and the elderly Gellert Grindelwald in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 1.
With over 150 film and television credits, including James Bond, Gangs of New York, and numerous British series, Byrne was a familiar face even when his name wasn’t widely known.
He is survived by his wife, actress Carole Nimmons, two daughters, and three grandchildren.
