Swedish actor and former Olympic-level weightlifter Kjell Nilsson, best known as Lord Humungus in Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior, has died at age 76 in Queensland, Australia.
His family confirmed he passed away peacefully in his sleep on July 2 after a long battle with end-stage kidney disease. Nilsson had been on dialysis for more than four years and made the decision to stop treatment shortly before his death.
Originally trained for Olympic weightlifting, Nilsson moved into acting after relocating to Australia, where he was encouraged to try film work. He became internationally recognized for his iconic role in Mad Max 2, along with appearances in The Pirate Movie and other productions.
He is remembered for his strength, determination, and lasting legacy in both sport and cinema.
