Husband Heartbroken After Wife Dies in Garden in Extreme Heat

Posted on July 4, 2026July 4, 2026 By admin

An 83-year-old Mississippi woman, Martha Irene Van Egmond, died after a tragic accident in extreme heat while gardening with her husband. After falling in a flowerbed, her husband also fell while trying to help her, leaving both of them stranded outside in intense temperatures for over three hours.

Despite help arriving later, it was too late to save Martha. Her husband shared that she loved gardening, her family, and her Christian faith, and said she “died in one of her happy places.”

He also later warned others about the dangers of extreme heat, noting how quickly conditions can become life-threatening even when people feel initially comfortable outdoors.
