They called the police on me because my baby granddaughter cried in a café — but days later, my face was on the front page.
At 72 years old, I’m raising my granddaughter Amy alone. My daughter Sarah died during childbirth, and Amy’s father disappeared.
After a long pediatrician visit, I escaped the rain and entered a small café to feed Amy.
She started crying, and before I could even prepare her bottle, a woman nearby complained:
“This isn’t a daycare. Some of us came here to relax.”
Her companion added:
“Take the baby outside.”
Then the waitress came over and told me to leave because I was disturbing customers.
I felt humiliated. I was ready to walk back into the cold rain with my granddaughter…
Then the door opened.
Two police officers walked in.
Someone had called them on me.
But after hearing the truth, everything changed.
One officer took Amy in his arms, fed her bottle, and proved the “disturbance” was nothing more than a hungry baby.
A few days later, a photo of me and Amy appeared in the local newspaper.
And what happened next changed that café forever.
