A week before Christmas, I overheard my daughter’s conversation… and the words she said changed everything.
I was making coffee in the kitchen when I heard Amanda laughing on the phone.
“Just leave all eight kids with her,” she said. “She doesn’t have anything else to do anyway. We’ll go enjoy our vacation.”
I froze.
For years, I had been the one who cooked, cleaned, bought the gifts, and opened my home every Christmas.
But hearing my own daughter talk about me like I was just a free babysitter broke something inside me.
She had already planned everything.
The hotel.
The vacation.
The perfect Christmas.
For everyone except me.
That night, I made a decision.
I wasn’t going to argue.
I wasn’t going to beg them to appreciate me.
I was simply going to stop being the person everyone took for granted.
And on December 23rd, everything changed.
