My Husband Refused to Buy Diapers for Our Newborn Twins — So I Made Him Understand What Fatherhood Really Means
When Carl and I found out we were expecting, we were both excited.
We had always planned that I would stay home after the baby arrived because daycare costs would take most of my income.
Then we found out something unexpected…
We were having twins.
I was overjoyed. Two little girls to love.
But after Abby and Talia were born, Carl started changing.
He complained about every expense.
“Another bottle?”
“More wipes?”
“How many diapers do two babies need?”
I tried to be patient. I thought maybe he was overwhelmed.
Then one day, everything changed.
We were grocery shopping when the cashier scanned our items.
“Your total is $121.77.”
Carl looked through the bags and grabbed the diapers.
“Remove these.”
I stared at him.
“Carl, they need those.”
His answer shocked me.
“I’m tired of paying for all this.”
I stood there embarrassed, holding two newborn babies while my husband treated diapers like they were unnecessary.
That night, he finally said what he had been thinking:
“I wanted ONE child, not two. You need to go back to work, and we’re splitting everything 50/50.”
I looked at him quietly.
Because at that moment, I realized the problem wasn’t money.
It was respect.
So I agreed.
“I’ll go back to work.”
Carl smiled, thinking the argument was over.
Then I added:
“But I have one condition.”
And that condition changed everything.
