For weeks, Emily kept telling me the same thing:
“Mommy… my bed is getting smaller.”
At first, I thought it was just a child’s imagination. A nightmare. Something that would pass.
But then she started asking me strange questions.
“Mommy, did you come into my room last night?”
When I told her no, she looked scared and whispered:
“Someone lies next to me when I’m sleeping…”
A feeling of fear came over me.
So I decided to install a small camera in her room.
And one night, I saw something I will never forget.
Emily was not alone in her bed.
An adult was lying beside her.
It was my mother-in-law.
She had been secretly entering Emily’s room every night because she believed she was “protecting” her granddaughter.
But she didn’t realize that she was crossing my boundaries as a mother and making Emily feel uncomfortable in her own room.
The next morning, I confronted her.
It wasn’t an easy conversation.
But I made one thing clear:
Loving a child doesn’t mean ignoring the wishes and boundaries of their parents.
Emily deserves to feel safe in her own home. ❤️
