1960s Music Legend Dies at 86—Cause of Death Revealed

Neil Sedaka’s cause of death has been revealed.

The legendary singer-songwriter died at age 86 from atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease, according to his death certificate. Kidney failure was also listed as a contributing factor.

Sedaka, known for timeless classics like “Breaking Up Is Hard to Do,” “Calendar Girl,” “Laughter in the Rain,” and “Bad Blood,” passed away after a career that spanned more than six decades.

His family shared their heartbreak, remembering him not only as a music icon but as “an incredible human being” who inspired millions.

Born in Brooklyn in 1939, Sedaka became one of the defining voices of early pop music. His piano-driven hits helped shape the sound of the late 1950s and 1960s, while his songwriting partnership with Howard Greenfield produced countless memorable songs.

He was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame, received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, earned multiple Grammy nominations, and continued performing for generations of fans.

Neil Sedaka leaves behind a remarkable musical legacy that will continue to live on.
