Country Music Legend Jeannie Seely Dies at 85
Country music has lost one of its most beloved voices. Jeannie Seely, the Grammy-winning singer and longtime Grand Ole Opry member, has died at the age of 85.
Seely passed away on August 1 at Summit Medical Center in Tennessee due to complications from an intestinal infection. She had faced serious health challenges throughout 2025, including multiple back surgeries, emergency abdominal procedures, ICU treatment, and pneumonia.
Known as “Miss Country Soul,” Seely built a legendary career spanning more than six decades. She rose to fame in 1966 with her hit song “Don’t Touch Me,” which earned her a Grammy Award for Best Female Country Vocal Performance.
A Grand Ole Opry member since 1967, Seely became known for her powerful voice, emotional performances, and groundbreaking personality in country music. She recorded more than 15 albums and released numerous hits, including “Can I Sleep in Your Arms” and “It’s Only Love.”
Her passing comes just months after the death of her husband, Eugene Ward, who died from cancer in December.
Jeannie Seely’s legacy as one of country music’s most influential women will continue to live on through her songs and the generations of artists she inspired.
