Florida Toddler, 3, Dies After Becoming Trapped in Toy Kitchen at Babysitter’s Home
Three-year-old Briella Holmes died on July 27, 2026, four days after she was found unresponsive at a babysitter’s home in Boynton Beach, Florida.
Police said Briella was playing downstairs with her sibling while the babysitter’s spouse was upstairs checking on the children periodically. During one of those checks, Briella was found with her head trapped inside an old wooden toy kitchen. Investigators believe she became stuck while trying to retrieve toys that had fallen inside.
She was rushed to the hospital in critical condition but later died. The Palm Beach County Medical Examiner ruled her death an accident caused by probable positional asphyxia. No criminal charges have been announced, and the investigation remains ongoing.
Authorities said the play kitchen had been purchased secondhand through Facebook Marketplace years earlier. Its brand and model have not been identified, and investigators have not linked it to any known recall.
Briella’s parents described her as a joyful, kind, independent little girl who loved singing and adored her older brother, Brock. Her family said she will forever remain one of their “life’s little miracles.”
The tragedy has also renewed warnings about active supervision and the potential risks of older or secondhand children’s products.
