Beloved British actress Cheryl Hall, best known for Citizen Smith and Doctor Who, has died at the age of 76.
The heartbreaking news was shared by actor Robin Askwith, who dated Hall in the 1970s.
“What a force of nature she was,” Askwith wrote. “A really innovative, working-class, charismatic actress… Brave in every way.”
Hall began her acting career in the late 1960s and became known for roles in On the Buses, Doctor Who, Citizen Smith, The Bill, Poirot, Inspector Morse, Casualty, Silent Witness and EastEnders.
She also came close to becoming part of Doctor Who history when she was considered for the role of Jo Grant before Katy Manning was cast.
Outside acting, Hall entered politics and became a Labour candidate and later served on Kent County Council.
She leaves behind a career spanning decades and performances remembered by generations of British television viewers.
Askwith ended his tribute with heartbreaking words:
“She was my beginning. RIP Cheryl Hall.”
