CBS Meteorologist Roland Steadham Dies at 67 in Plane Crash
Roland Steadham, the longtime chief meteorologist at Boise’s CBS2, has died at 67 following a tragic plane crash in rural Idaho.
The small aircraft crashed into the frozen Payette River near Emmett on Tuesday morning after reportedly clipping a power line. Steadham and another person were killed. The second victim has not yet been identified.
Steadham was not only a respected meteorologist but also an accomplished pilot with more than 3,000 flight hours. Just one week before his death, he spoke to aviation students in Emmett about his passion for flying and encouraged them to pursue careers in aviation.
He previously worked as chief meteorologist at major stations including WTVJ in Miami, KUTV and KTVX in Salt Lake City before joining CBS2 in Boise.
Tributes quickly poured in from viewers and colleagues, remembering Steadham as a talented meteorologist, devoted family man, experienced pilot, and kind person.
He is survived by his wife, six children, and several grandchildren.
Authorities say the cause of the crash remains under investigation.
Rest in peace, Roland Steadham. 🕊️
