For years, I felt like I was carrying my entire family on my back.
I loved my husband Ryan and our daughter Susie, but somehow, I was always the one handling everything—school, lunches, appointments, bedtime, and all the little things no one noticed.
Then one Wednesday, Susie’s teacher asked if she was excited for “Donuts with Dad.”
Susie smiled and asked:
“Can Mommy come too? Mommy does everything with me.”
Ryan went completely silent.
The next morning, something changed.
He packed Susie’s lunch, showed up for donuts in the giraffe shirt she picked, and started taking on the things I had been doing alone.
School drop-offs. Laundry. Bedtime stories. Even messy grilled cheese.
Then, a week later, they surprised me with a pink gift bag and a card.
I cried.
Not because I was hurt—but because, for the first time in years, I felt seen.
Then Ryan took my hand and said:
“I see you. I want to do this with you.”
Sometimes love isn’t about grand gestures.
Sometimes, it’s simply someone finally realizing how much you’ve been carrying.
