A Week Before Christmas, I Overheard My Daughter Planning My Christmas Without Me
A week before Christmas, I was making coffee when I heard my daughter Amanda talking on the phone.
I quietly approached and heard her say, “Just leave all eight grandkids with Mom. She has nothing else to do anyway. We’re going to the hotel and have some peace.”
I froze.
Amanda explained that Martin had already booked a hotel at the coast. Robert and Lucy agreed. They would enjoy their vacation while I watched all eight children.
“Mom has experience,” she laughed. “She already bought the gifts and paid for dinner. We just have to show up on the 25th, eat, open presents, and leave.”
Perfect.
That word broke something inside me.
Perfect for them. Not for me.
I put my coffee down, my hands trembling with an anger I had never felt before.
For years, I had always been the mother who said yes.
But this Christmas, I decided things would be different.
