Actress Nina Shipman Dies at 88 — Her Face Was Part of Classic Hollywood
Nina Shipman, the actress who appeared in Vertigo, The Oregon Trail, Bonanza, Perry Mason, The Andy Griffith Show and The Munsters, has died at 88.
Shipman died of natural causes on September 6, 2026, in Gardena, California.
Born into a family deeply connected to Hollywood, she began acting young and later trained at the Pasadena Playhouse under Sanford Meisner. One of her earliest film appearances was a small role in Alfred Hitchcock’s Vertigo.
But television became her greatest legacy. She appeared in countless beloved shows, often playing the memorable guest characters who helped bring each episode to life.
Her strangest role came on The Munsters, where she played Grandpa Munster after he was transformed into a beautiful blonde woman. Even more bizarrely, her dialogue was later dubbed with Al Lewis’s voice.
Beyond acting, Shipman was a musician, author, teacher and television host.
She may never have been the biggest star on the screen, but generations of viewers saw her face without ever forgetting it.
