My Husband Expected Me to Cook for 30 Guests With a Broken Leg—Then His Mother Found Out
Three weeks before my husband Donald’s 40th birthday, I broke my leg. The doctor told me to rest, but Donald had already invited 30 guests to a pool party.
He expected me to prepare the food, drinks, and cake.
When I suggested catering, he refused.
“Catering is too expensive. You can sit down and cook.”
So at 4 a.m. on his birthday, I began preparing everything while Donald relaxed by the pool.
Then his mother, Diane, walked into the kitchen and found me struggling with my crutches.
She asked why I was doing all the work with a broken leg. I told her Donald had refused to pay for catering.
She quietly walked outside.
Minutes later, I heard Donald shouting.
When I went outside, everyone was staring at him.
His mother had confronted him in front of the guests and made him explain why his injured wife had been working since 4 a.m.
Donald was humiliated.
For the first time, I stopped protecting him and told everyone the truth.
That day, I realized I didn’t have to keep carrying everything just to keep my marriage looking perfect.
