My husband Gary showed up at my door with two suitcases and his golf clubs, expecting to move back in after four months away. He had left our 22-year marriage for another woman, but now that their relationship had failed, he wanted his old life back.
I calmly told him his belongings were already packed in the garage. Then my neighbor Linda called with a shocking discovery: Gary had been lying to the woman he left me for, too. She believed he was divorced and had been separated for two years. He had even lied about his family and his identity.
When the other woman arrived and confronted him, his lies finally came to light. I explained that our separation was already finalized, the house was legally mine, and I had no intention of taking him back.
The woman apologized, admitting she hadn’t known the truth. Gary eventually collected his belongings and drove away.
That evening, Linda brought cake and sparkling cider. As we sat together in my freshly painted kitchen, I realized something important: I no longer needed Gary to come home. I had already rebuilt a life of my own.
