A transgender woman, Jessica Simpson (formerly Jessica Yaniv), claimed discrimination after a gynecologist allegedly refused her care for anatomy she didn’t possess. The case reignited public debate and led to legal complaints.
Simpson, a Canadian trans activist, gained attention in 2018 for filing human rights complaints against beauticians who refused to perform a Brazilian wax on her male genitalia. She demanded up to $15,000 from each but ultimately lost the case and was ordered to pay damages after the court ruled the estheticians weren’t trained to handle male anatomy and noted Simpson showed bias against certain minority groups.
Simpson continued filing complaints — including against beauty pageants, police, media, and even the local fire department for not assisting her out of the bath over 30 times. She was warned over inappropriate behavior toward responders and threatened to sue the township.
In 2019, she targeted a gynecologist who allegedly told her, “we don’t serve transgender patients.” Simpson accused the clinic of violating medical ethics, although she hadn’t undergone gender-affirming surgery. No official update followed her complaint.
The controversy drew public criticism and satire, including from comedian Ricky Gervais. Experts clarify that gynecological care is anatomy-specific and applies only to individuals with relevant organs — typically after gender-affirming surgery.
