Air India Crash: Manufacturing Concerns Raised
Last week’s Air India crash in Ahmedabad killed over 270 people, leaving only one survivor. Flight AI171, a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner bound for London, crashed into a residential area shortly after takeoff. The cause remains unknown, with investigators from India, the UK, and the US examining engine failure, wing flaps, and landing gear. The black box has been recovered.
Former Boeing manager-turned-whistleblower Ed Pierson, who testified to U.S. Congress in 2019 about safety issues with Boeing’s 787 models, blamed “chaotic and dangerous manufacturing.” He cited rushed production, parts problems, and staff under pressure. Pierson warned these issues may be linked to the crash, though he emphasized a final conclusion can’t be made until full data analysis is complete.
Pierson also noted troubling passenger reports of system failures shortly before the crash, calling it “a concern” worth investigating.
