I always felt like Michael was hiding something—especially since he refused to introduce me to his family, claiming his mother was “complicated.” Still, our relationship felt real. We talked about the future, and I truly believed he was planning to propose.
Then he grew distant. One day while out shopping, I saw him with another woman. She was clinging to him, and he looked happy. I was heartbroken. I followed them to her house and, convinced she was the reason he was pulling away, I confronted her—throwing a smoothie in her face and accusing her of sleeping with my boyfriend.
I planned to expose him at the family dinner that weekend. But when she walked in with Michael and an older man, I froze.
“That’s my mom,” he said.
I was mortified. She smirked and told Michael to dump me on the spot, revealing she knew exactly what had happened.
But Michael refused. Despite everything, he got down on one knee and proposed. I said yes.
His mom stormed out, furious. Michael stood by me anyway. Love might be messy—but at least now, it’s honest.
