Simple gesture by quick-thinking couple saved many lives during Texas floods

Posted on July 10, 2025 By admin

A quick-thinking Minnesota couple helped save lives during deadly flash floods in central Texas over the Fourth of July weekend. Lyle and Sue Glenna, campground workers, alerted fellow campers by honking their truck horn as floodwaters from the Guadalupe River surged to 26 feet, sweeping away homes and vehicles.

Their son, Wes, told CBS News that their warning gave people critical time to evacuate. A GoFundMe page praised their actions, saying they “saved many lives.”

Within 10 minutes, the campground was flooded. The Glennas escaped with only their truck and clothes. Tragically, Lyle suffered a heart attack amid the chaos but is expected to recover.

The community has rallied in support, raising over $24,000 to help them rebuild. Thanks to donations, Lyle received the medical equipment he needed before leaving the hospital.
