John Goodman’s 200-Pound Weight Loss Journey Raises Health Concerns
John Goodman, best known for Roseanne and The Big Lebowski, has undergone a major transformation over the past 20 years, losing nearly 200 pounds. After getting sober in 2007, he committed to a healthier lifestyle, working with trainer Mackie Shilstone and following a Mediterranean diet with regular workouts.
Goodman’s highest weight was nearly 400 pounds. He once told David Letterman he would lose 60 pounds each year after Roseanne, only to gain it all back. But since 2007, he’s stayed committed. “I just stopped eating all the time,” he said in 2016. “I was eating alcoholically.”
In 2023, Goodman revealed he had lost 200 pounds and taken up boxing, saying it gave him energy and purpose. Despite his success, new photos of the 73-year-old at the Smurfs premiere in July 2025 sparked concern online, with fans commenting that he looked “gaunt” and “unwell.”
Goodman was also recently hospitalized after a fall on set left him with a fractured hip. He underwent surgery at the Cleveland Clinic in London and recovered after a month of rest.
Though some fans speculate about the use of weight-loss drugs like Ozempic, many continue to applaud his incredible transformation and ongoing dedication to health.
