Rock Legend Ozzy Osbourne Dies at 76; Old Euthanasia Pact Resurfaces
Ozzy Osbourne, iconic founder of Black Sabbath, died Tuesday at age 76, just weeks after a farewell performance in Birmingham. He had long battled Parkinson’s disease and passed away surrounded by family.
Following his death, attention returned to a decades-old agreement Ozzy and his wife Sharon made: if either developed severe dementia, they would choose euthanasia. Sharon, whose father suffered from the disease, had openly discussed this plan in her 2007 memoir and again in later interviews and their family podcast.
In 2014, Ozzy himself confirmed he would opt for assisted death if ever incapacitated. However, daughter Kelly recently denied they had an active suicide pact, calling earlier comments exaggerated.
Though the family hasn’t disclosed his cause of death, Ozzy’s health had been in steady decline since early 2024.
