British Woman Regrets Leaving Family for Masai Warrior
In 1995, 34-year-old Cheryl Thomasgood (then Mason) left her husband and three children in England for a Masai warrior, Daniel Lekimencho, after a chance meeting during a trip to Kenya. Feeling trapped in her marriage and job, she followed her heart to live with Daniel in a remote village.
The romance quickly turned into a struggle. Cheryl fell ill, returned to the UK, and later brought Daniel over. They married on Valentine’s Day 1995, but cultural clashes, financial tensions, and Daniel’s difficulty adjusting to Western life led to their split in 1999.
Cheryl now admits the relationship was a mistake and says Daniel used her for money. She also reflects on how the ordeal hurt her children. Today, at 65, she lives quietly in Somerset, while Daniel remains on the Isle of Wight, working in a supermarket.
