The mother of 16-year-old Trey Dean Wright is speaking out after her son was allegedly lured to his death by a girlfriend he once called “a dream come true.” His final moments were filmed.
On June 24, 2025, Trey was shot multiple times in Florence County, South Carolina, and later died at the hospital. Authorities say he was left bleeding on a rural road after a setup involving two carloads of teens.
19-year-old Devin Scott Raper was arrested the next day for murder. Days later, Trey’s girlfriend, 17-year-old Gianna Kistenmacher, was charged as an accessory. Investigators say she lured Trey into the fatal confrontation, knowing Raper was armed and likely to kill.
Sheriff T.J. Joye called the incident a tragic fallout among teens over a girl. Trey’s mother, Ashley Lindsey, believes Gianna instigated the argument, dragging Raper into it. She says her son expected a fistfight, not a shooting.
“He told me being with her felt like a dream,” Lindsey said, rejecting the idea of a love triangle. “This was a childish act that turned real.”
Authorities say video evidence from the night has been key in the investigation. In total, nine teens from Myrtle Beach face charges in connection to Trey’s murder.
